History

Joe Petrina’s lifelong dream was to own his own construction business.

Joe’s father owned a meat market on the east side of the Willamette river. After graduating from LaSalle High School, Joe honed his entrepreneurial skills working for his father. His interest in carpentry grew while he attended the University of Oregon and Portland State University.

He began working as a carpenter in 1974, building small decks and fences. By 1977 he started his own construction business at the age of 23. Joe worked his way through small kitchen remodels and gained many valuable carpentry skills, like framing, cabinetry work, and finishing.

Joe and Sue married in 1981. They incorporated the business in 1989, and the company has grown every year since. Together Joe and Sue have two sons, who have both worked in the family business.

Petrina Construction started as a one-man operation and grew into a thriving small business with eight field employees and two office staff. As we continue to build and renovate homes in the Portland area, our goals remain to always exceed the highest industry standards in safety and quality, to maintain our strong Oregonian ethics and values, and to offer our community financial and volunteer support.
